RUDIMENTAL - DIY Asalato Workshop

Make something with your hands. Find your rhythm. Make some noise.

The asalato is a small West African percussion instrument made of two balls connected by a string. Simple to look at, surprisingly satisfying to play, and capable of taking you much deeper into rhythm than you might expect.

In RUDIMENTAL, you'll start by crafting your own asalato by hand, guided by XENKAT. Once you've made it, you'll learn how to move with it, find the rhythm, and gradually turn those movements into patterns and songs.

This isn't about getting everything right. It's about getting your hands moving, listening closely, experimenting with rhythm, and discovering how a simple handmade instrument can become an expression of your own groove.

And then, we'll bring it all together.

The session ends with a jam in unison, where everyone plays together and the individual rhythms become one.

You leave with an instrument you made yourself, a new way of understanding rhythm, and the memory of making music together with a room full of people.

No musical experience needed. Just come curious.
